Southern Bank Foundation Makes Donation to Shepard-Pruden Memorial Library

Mount Olive , N.C. - The Southern Bank Foundation recently made a $25,000 donation to the Shepard-Pruden Memorial Library in Edenton to help with its expansion and renovation project. The library is a branch of the Pettigrew Regional Library, a multi-county library system that provides public library services to the residents of Chowan, Perquimans, Tyrrell, and Washington counties. The Shepard-Pruden Library primarily serves the residents of Chowan County.

G. Rouse Ivey Joins Board of Directors of Southern BancShares (N.C.), Inc. and Southern Bank and Trust Company

Southern BancShares (N.C.), Inc. and Southern Bank and Trust Company are pleased to announce the appointment of G. Rouse Ivey to the Board of Directors of both companies. Mr. Ivey is a self-employed farmer in the Mount Olive area.

A native of Mount Olive, Mr. Ivey is a graduate of North Carolina State University with a degree in Livestock Technology.

Ivey is very active in his community. He is the current Chairman and Board Member of the Natural Resource Conservation Service in Duplin County; a Director of the North Carolina Tobacco Growers Association; a member of the Board of Directors of Oak Wolfe Fire Department, where he also serves as a Fireman; a member of the Philip Morris USA Quality Assurance Committee; a member of the Local Advisory Board of Southern Bank and Trust Company in Kenansville; and a member of the Local Advisory Board of Southern States Cooperative.

Mr. Ivey’s career achievements include earning the 1982 Philip Morris Young Tobacco Farmer Award, the Kenansville Jaycees Outstanding Young Farmer Award, the 1990 Mount Olive Jaycees Young Farmer Award, and 2006 Melvin Cording Award for Service to Agriculture, which was given by the Duplin County Agri-Business Council.

Southern Bank Foundation Makes Donation to Local YMCA

The Southern Bank Foundation recently fulfilled its five year pledge commitment of $50,000 to the Rocky Mount YMCA. The donation was a part of a multi-year campaign to build the new Harrison Family YMCA.

Russell Jackson, Senior Vice President of Southern Bank, presented the 5th and final installment of the Southern Bank Foundation pledge to Laura Thompson, CEO of the Rocky Mount YMCA.

Southern Bank and Trust Company formed the Southern Bank Foundation in December of 1996. The primary purpose of the Foundation is to make charitable gifts and to support charitable programs in areas of North Carolina served by Southern Bank and Trust Company. In this regard, the Foundation supports a large number and variety of charities annually and it is helping to improve the quality of life in the communities of eastern North Carolina.
